EXPENSES & INVENTORY
Purchase Inventory
Use the inventory options to record goods bought for resale as inventory value.
Purchase Inventory (Pay Now)
This opens the paid-expense form with inventory accounts under Paid for. Choose the account you paid from and the inventory account receiving the purchase value. Check the date, amount and applicable sales taxes; a vendor link is optional.
Purchase Inventory (Bill)
This opens a new bill with Inventory selected as the bill type. Select the vendor, add the purchased items and check the supplier’s totals. Marking the bill as received records the inventory purchase and the amount owed. Record payment later through Bill Payment.
See Bills & Cash Expenses for drafts, received bills and partial payments.
Inventory value and goods cost
These workflows record the purchase in an inventory account rather than immediately treating it as a normal expense. Recoverable tax is separated from that value.
The Pay Now form records an amount, not individual stock quantities. Although a bill has item quantities, these purchase actions should not be treated as a stock-count system. When sales are recorded with goods costs, PiggyZen records cost of goods sold and reduces inventory value.
For lost or discarded stock, use Inventory adjustment to record the change in value.
